Does running in a minimalist shoe lead to an increase or decrease in injury?
According to a systematic review (Perkins et. al, 2014) of 23 articles, no definitive conclusions can be drawn regarding specific risks or benefits to running barefoot or in minimalist shoes.
However if you are currently using a regular shoe, don't make a sudden change to a minimalist shoe. Any change in running footwear needs to be done at a gradual pace to avoid injury.
